Global semiconductor chip shortage worsens
Michigan | November 4, 2021
A global semiconductor chip shortage has gotten even worse in the past few months, leading to delays for various products and a significant loss of sales for companies that need the chips for their business.
Semiconductors, which make up essential and expensive parts of modern-day gadgets and cars, have seen an explosion in demand in the past decade and particularly during the pandemic, causing a global shortage.
“The shortages are going to continue indefinitely,” Brandon Kulik, the head of Deloitte’s semiconductor industry practice, told Ars Technica. “Maybe that doesn’t mean 10 years, but certainly, we’re not talking about quarters. We’re talking about years.”
Car companies such as General Motors Co. and Ford halted production lines at multiple factories earlier this year due to the shortage. The shortage has now started to affect other valuable consumer goods, such as smartphones, home appliances, and even medical equipment, the Wall Street Journal reported …. Former Detroit Police Chief Leads GOP Hopefuls in Cash for Michigan Governor Race
Michigan | November 1, 2021
With the 2022 midterm elections now just a year and a week away, it might be a good time to check in with how the candidates that are vying to line up as the GOP candidate for Governor are doing. Well, at least in the department of CASH. The Michigan primary to select who will be facing incumbent Gretchen Whitmer is August 2nd, 2022 — just 275 days away. So, let’s go to the tote board to see who is in the (money) race.
Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig reported raising more than $1.42 million dollars this past quarter, besting 11 other candidates vying for the GOP nomination for Michigan governor.
Last quarter was the first Craig was required to report, after opening his campaign committee back in July.
“I’m humbled and honored at the outpouring of support we are seeing from Michiganders across this state,” Craig said in a statement.
Craig, who many have pointed to as a favorite to win the GOP primary, received contributions from former Michigan GOP Governors Rick Snyder and John Engler.
Kalamazoo-based chiropractor Garrett Soldano came in second among GOP contenders, raising more than $495,979 this quarter. His grassroots campaign has raised $1.1 million to date. “I’m incredibly proud of this campaign and grateful to our supporters who contribute to our vision for a better Michigan,” Soldano said in a news release…(Excerpts from the Red State)

Rashida Tlaib calls on Israel to release the body of a woman who tried to kill Israeli troops
Michigan | August 30, 2021
Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib called for Israel to return the body of a woman who was killed while she attempted to kill Israeli soldiers.
In a Twitter thread on Saturday, Tlaib, one of Israel’s harshest critics in Congress, slammed Israel for its policy of holding onto the bodies of assailants who are killed during an attack.
“Meet Mai Afana’s mother, Khuloud, who is fighting to be able to bury her daughter & begin her healing,” wrote Tlaib, a Palestinian American. “Mai was a mother, loving daughter & successful PhD student. She was killed by the Israeli government last June. Israel won’t release her body to her family.”
Attached to the tweet is a photo of Afana’s mother holding up a poster of her daughter.
Afana was killed on June 16. The Israeli military said at the time that she had rammed her car into a West Bank checkpoint near Jerusalem and then, holding a knife, had rushed the soldiers at the checkpoint. An Israeli soldier was lightly injured in the attack.
Israel routinely holds bodies of assailants as a means of bargaining for live Israeli captives and the bodies of Israelis held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip… (Excerpts from Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

Hundreds Protest Vaccination Mandates in Michigan
Michigan | August 8, 2021
About 800 protesters gathered Friday afternoon on the grounds outside the Michigan State Capitol to rally against government mandates for vaccinations and masks.
In a call for residents to push back against the government’s increasingly intrusive health policies and protect Americans’ rights during the pandemic, Tammy Clark, executive director of the conservative group “Stand Up Michigan,” encouraged the audience to let their voices be heard through non-violent civil disobedience.
“If we don’t stop this now, we won’t get another chance,” Clark said. “Let’s show the government that the employees of this country will not tolerate this tyranny. We have inalienable rights and we are not going to give them up. We must refuse to comply with the vaccine mandates and forced mask-wearing at all costs. If you lose your job, go out and get another job!”.. (Excerpts from The Epoch Times)

USA Today Poll: 90 Percent of Detroit Residents Want More Police
Michigan | July 25, 2021
Detroit residents resoundingly reject the defund the police movement, with around 90% saying they would feel safe with more police, not less, according to a new poll.
They are far more worried about public safety than police reform, and three out of four respondents reject the “defund the police” slogan by leftists, the USA Today/Suffolk University/Detroit Free Press Poll found.
“It’s scary sitting in the house, and when you go outside to the gas station or the store, it’s possible someone will be shooting right next to you,” lifelong Detroit resident Charlita Bell, 41, who was among those polled, told USA Today….

Michigan Legislature Repeals Governor’s Emergency Powers Act
Michigan | July 21, 2021
The Michigan House of Representatives on July 21 voted in favor of repealing the Emergency Powers Act of the Governor. The vote follows the approval of the repeal by the state Senate last week and means the law is officially off the books.
The House voted 60-48 to repeal the law. The Michigan Senate voted 20-15 to repeal on July 15, two days after the state Board of Canvassers certified that Unlock Michigan, a coalition of state residents, had obtained more than the required 340,000 valid signatures to put a repeal proposition before the voters at the next general election.
The legislature’s action to repeal rendered a vote of the people unnecessary. Under Michigan law, if both chambers of the legislature approve a measure put before them by a citizens’ initiative, the governor has no power to veto it and a referendum vote in no longer needed… (Excerpts from the Epoch Times)
