Pro-choice activists are celebrating an amendment to Portland’s bereavement leave policy that has made it the first local government in the United States to give paid time off to public employees after an abortion. One pro-life group is calling it an unwitting acknowledgment of the loss of life.
The new policy allows public employees to take up to three days of bereavement leave for an abortion or a miscarriage, stillbirth or any other type of pregnancy loss, “irrespective of whether deemed medically necessary,” Oregon Public Broadcasting reported…. (Excerpts from the Christian Post)

Ohio Senate Passes Bill to Stop Infanticide, Protect Babies Who Survive Abortions

The Ohio Senate overwhelmingly approved legislation Wednesday to stop infanticide by ensuring that babies who survive abortions receive basic medical care.
State Senate Bill 157 passed in a 25-6 vote and now heads to the state House for consideration.
The pro-life bill would create penalties for abortionists who fail to preserve the health or life of a child who survives an abortion. It also would require abortionists to report to the Ohio Department of Health when a baby is born alive in a botched abortion.
“The bill acknowledges the simple fact that regardless of the circumstances surrounding his or her birth, every child deserves our compassion and care,” said Sen. Terry Johnson, R-McDermott, a physician and the lead sponsor of the legislation. (Excerpts from LIFENEWS.COM)

Wisconsin Legislature Passes Four Pro-Life Bills to Save Babies From Abortion

The Wisconsin legislature is expected to pass four pro-life bills Wednesday to educate and empower parents while protecting their unborn babies from being killed in abortions.
The Republican-led state Assembly is expected to approve the bills after the state Senate passed them by a strong majority last week. The legislation soon will head to Gov. Tony Evers’ desk. A pro-abortion Democrat, Evers is expected to veto the legislation.
All four bills would provide life-saving information and support to protect unborn babies from abortion. Prior to the vote, Republican lawmakers said the measures should not be controversial and they should have bipartisan support.

Democrats Call Governor Ron DeSantis “Inhumane” Because He Supports Saving Babies From Abortion

A new attack ad targeting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis claims it is “cruel” and “inhumane” to protect unborn babies from being killed in abortions.
Florida Politics reports the Remove Ron PAC paid for the video ad as Florida lawmakers consider legislation that would mirror the life-saving new Texas heartbeat law. DeSantis, a pro-life Republican, recently said he “welcomes” pro-life legislation.
“I’m pro-life. I welcome pro-life legislation,” DeSantis said, a comment highlighted in the attack ad. “What they did in Texas is interesting, and I’m going to look more significantly at it.”
Florida House Bill 167 would require abortionists to check for an unborn baby’s heartbeat before doing an abortion and prohibit the abortion if they detect a heartbeat. Typically an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable by about six weeks of pregnancy. The bill also includes a provision unique to the Texas law that would allow private citizens to enforce it by suing abortionists who abort unborn babies in violation of the law…. A Catholic American president will travel to Rome this Friday to meet with Pope Francis.
There is a very profound and obvious issue they could discuss: Is it OK for a politician of any religious faith, or even none at all, to violate the natural law and support the deliberate killing of unborn babies?
President Joe Biden unambiguously supports legalized abortion and forcing taxpayers to pay for it. That puts him at odds not just with his church but with the founding principle of his country.

Catholic Bishop Urges Pro-Life Americans to Pray to End Abortion

Archbishop Paul Coakley of Oklahoma City encouraged Catholics to join him in “urgent prayers” this fall for an end to abortion and a renewed respect for every human life.
In a message on the archdiocese website, Coakley reminded people that every human life is valuable from conception to natural death, the Catholic News Agency reports.
“We must pray for a renewed focus on the precious gift of life – all life from conception until natural death,” the archbishop said. “We need urgent prayers for our leaders that they have wisdom and courage to create laws and policies that respect the dignity of human life.”
Coakley asked people to join him in prayer for an end to abortion and the death penalty.
“I ask that we offer special prayers now through the beginning of Advent for greater respect for life, and to pray on the day of the execution for victims of these horrendous crimes and their families, and for the souls of the condemned,” Coakley continued…. (Excerpts from LifeNews.com)
