Minorities Fleeing High-Tax, Democrat-Run States for High-Opportunity, Republican-Run Country
Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia | August 16, 2021
Many black Americans moved from northern blue states to Georgia, Texas, Florida, North Carolina and Virginia.
Data from the 2020 census confirms a population shift that reflects “the decade’s broad population shifts: slow growth in the Northeast and Midwest, and gains in the South and some Western states.”
The last decade’s interstate migration shift also indicated that states with higher taxes and less opportunities for job growth lost residents to lower tax states with more job opportunities.
Population losses or small gains were widespread in the Northeast and Midwest, the 2020 census found, with Florida and Texas receiving the most interstate migrants, gaining 2.4 million and 2 million more people, respectively.
From 2010 to 2020 three states, Illinois, West Virginia, and Mississippi lost more people than they gained. Illinois and West Virginia each lost a congressional seat, and Illinois lost $6 billion in 2019 due to population losses alone, an analysis of Internal Revenue Service data by the nonprofit Wirepoints website found….

DeSantis Tells Christian Group: ‘Stand for What’s Right, Put on the Full Armor of God’
Florida | July 15, 2021
Florida Gov. Rick DeSantis on Wednesday encouraged a group of Christian attorneys attending a conference to “stand firm for what’s right” and “put on the full armor of God” as they defend religious liberty. DeSantis made the remarks in Florida at the Alliance Defending Freedom’s Summit on Religious Liberty as he recounted his own record of defending religious freedom and conservative values. ADF, founded by Christian leaders, is a legal organization that protects “religious freedom, free speech, marriage and family, parental rights, and the sanctity of life,” according to its website.
“I appreciate what you’re doing, because I know you face blowback. I know the media smears. I know that you take on cases that are not popular with certain segments of our elite institutions. God bless you for being willing to do it,” DeSantis, a Republican, said. “… I just would say whether you’re doing legal battles, whether you’re a judge, whether you’re an elected official – stand firm for what’s right, put on the full armor of God. Take a stand against the Left schemes. Take up the shield of faith. You’re gonna face flaming arrows – that’s guaranteed – but stand strong. Hold the line, and don’t ever, ever back down.”…

Florida Prosecutors Will Ask Grand Jury To Probe Condo Collapse
Florida | June 30, 2021
Prosecutors in Florida will ask a grand jury to investigate the collapse of the Champlain Towers South, which has left at least 12 people dead and scores more missing.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava told reporters at a press briefing that she backs a probe by State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle that would examine factors that led to Thursday’s collapse of the 12-story Champlain Towers South building in Surfside, where at least a dozen people died and 149 more remain missing.
“I have pledged my full cooperation as she moves forward,” Cava said. “I will do—and my team will do—everything possible to aid them in their efforts to continue that investigation.”
Rundle said she would bring the matter before grand jurors soon….

The DeSantis Doctrine: Florida governor blazes trail for GOP on free speech, school choice, civics
Florida | June 24, 2021
Nearly 200 years ago, President James Monroe warned European powers that the United States would not tolerate further colonization of the Americas. It became known as the Monroe Doctrine.
Gov. Ron DeSantis appears to be developing a doctrine of his own: Florida will not tolerate ideological colonization of its public classrooms.
The Republican has signed a slew of education-related bills into law this year that play well with the conservative base. Three more came Tuesday night: college viewpoint diversity and due process in disciplinary matters; a patriotic civics curriculum that emphasizes why people flee communist regimes; and a new civics “assessment” for high school and college students…

DeSantis Rises As He Promises He’s ‘Only Begun To Fight’: ‘Put On Full Armor Of God’ To Fight The Left
Florida | June 22, 2021
Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was repeatedly met with standing ovation over the weekend as he spoke to the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference.
DeSantis’ speech comes after a new straw poll from a top conservative summit over the weekend found that DeSantis has overtaken former President Donald Trump as the person that conservatives desire to be the next president. DeSantis, who spoke for half an hour at the event, highlighted his record as the state’s governor and what his goals are moving forward.
Highlights from DeSantis’ speech include:
- “And for me, my ability to serve as governor and the opportunity, wasn’t an opportunity to be somebody. I didn’t need another title. It was an opportunity to do great things on behalf of the state. I was not going to settle for merely being the controlled opposition to leftism. Instead, we were going to fight big battles and we were going to win and we have practiced that.” ….(Excerpts from the Daily Wire)

Florida Gov. DeSantis Signs Bill Requiring Minute of Silence in All Public Schools
Florida | June 15, 2021
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed a bill requiring teachers in K-12 first-period classes to provide between one and two minutes of silence, which will allow students to pray if they want.
The Republican governor explained that many of the Founding Fathers who helped create the country’s system of government wouldn’t agree with the notion that “you can just push God out of every institution and be successful.”
“I’m sorry, our Founding Fathers did not believe that,” DeSantis added, speaking at a signing event in Bal Harbour.
The bill, H.B. 529 (pdf), requires the principals at public schools to require certain teachers to take a moment of silence at the start of each school day in public schools. The bill also bans “teachers from making suggestions as to the nature of any reflection that a student may engage in during the moment of silence.”
“In today’s hectic society too few persons are able to experience even a moment of quiet reflection before plunging headlong into the activities of daily life,” according to the measure. “Young persons are particularly affected by the absence of an opportunity for a moment of quiet reflection. The legislature finds that our youth and society as a whole would be well served if students in the public schools were afforded a moment of silence at the beginning of each school day.”..
